Spring is truly here

It’s April already and we are starting to see signs that Spring is truly here. I hope this newsletter finds you well. There’s a lot happening in the wine world right now and I have much to share with you.

The global shortage in dry goods

First, I’m sure many of you have already been experiencing the global shortage in dry goods, which has resulted in a dramatic increase in price in recent months. This shortage is affecting many industries, but its impact on the wine trade is particularly impactful and has been causing a lot of tension and anxiety among business owners, as they worry about how they will be able to survive in this difficult market.

I have written an in-depth article that explains the reasons for the shortages and how these shortages are affecting the wine industry as a whole – from growers to retailers. It is extremely unclear how long this trend will last, so this information is critical for anyone involved in the business to know.

In happier news, I am excited to be spending several weeks in Seattle before preparing to go to ProWein, the world’s largest wine fair. My time in Seattle is always a breath of fresh air where I have the opportunity to connect with friends. I love the Pacific Northwest!

Beaujolais and The Desvignes family

As you know, every month I like to highlight a notable producer in my newsletters and April producer spotlight is Desvignes Beaujolais.

The French wine region of Beaujolais is renowned for its light, fruit-forward red wines made from the Gamay grape. However, the Desvignes family produces a very different style of Beaujolais. Their Moulin à Vent is a fuller bodied red wine that is aged in oak barrels. This gives it a much richer flavor then most Beaujolais wines, with cherry and spice notes followed by a dense, concentrated mouthfeel.

The Desvignes family has been growing grapes in Beaujolais for generations, and their experience shines through in this elegant and complex wine. The Moulin à Vent will pair well with a variety of dishes, from grilled meats to roasted vegetables. If you’re looking for something different from the usual Beaujolais, the Moulin à Vent from Desvignes is definitely worth a try.

Until next month, with pleasure.
